Amanda Colón has lived in the Tampa Bay area for over 40 years. She is a graduate of River Ridge High School, and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors from the University of Florida in Gainesville, majoring in Criminology. She continued on to the University of Florida College of Law where she obtained her Juris Doctorate, graduating with Honors.
As a former Prosecutor and Assistant Attorney General, Attorney Colón has substantial experience in a broad range of criminal matters. She handled thousands of cases including misdemeanors, felonies, violations of probation, and cases involving domestic violence issues and injunctions. Ms. Colón also instructed for the Florida Prosecuting Attorney’s Association.
As a Senior Assistant Attorney General, Amanda Colón represented the State of Florida in Criminal Appeals, Jimmy Ryce Appeals (involuntary civil commitment of sexually violent predators), and argued before the Second District Court of Appeal.
Amanda is trained in Collaborative Law and is a member of the Tampa Bay Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
Leadership and Involvement
Ms. Colón is a proud member and Former Chair of the Board of Directors for Pace Center for Girls, Inc. in Pasco County.
Attorney Colón is a past Chair of Grievance Committee 6-B for the Sixth Circuit, assisting in the investigation of ethical complaints against local attorneys. Amanda was also the Chair of the Unlicensed Practice of Law Committee for the Pasco area.
Ms. Colón serves the courts as a Guardian Ad Litem for Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough County Family Law cases.
Ms. Colón is a past President of the West Pasco Bar Association, and formerly served as President Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, and Director.
Attorney Colón is a past President of Women Lawyers of Pasco, and was Chair of the Pasco County Taskforce Commission on the Status of Women.
Attorney Colón was appointed to the Sixth Judicial Circuit Professionalism Committee, and serves as a Contact Attorney for the Committee, helping resolve disputes between members of the Florida Bar.
Attorney Colón served as a member of the Continuing Legal Education Committee for the Family Law Section of the Florida Bar, and is a past Secretary for the Committee. As part of her various committee projects, Amanda has Chaired Continuing Legal Education Seminars, the Law Week 5k, Law Week 2013, and Installation Banquet for the West Pasco Bar Association. She has participated in committees to create Evidence and Ethics CLE’s, and Adoption Day. As a former Adjunct Professor for Pasco Hernando Community College, Amanda taught Legal Issues in Information Technology, and Family Law. She volunteered her time to Pasco County’s Drug Court program and served as a Hearing Master for Juvenile Arbitration cases.
Amanda has spoken and taught at various Continuing Legal Education seminars, and is available for speaking events nationwide.
When not practicing law, Amanda can usually be found on the sideline of a lacrosse field, driving to a lacrosse field, leaving a lacrosse field, or buying snacks to head to a lacrosse field. She also enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and girls, and is currently teaching herself how to knit.
